It was founded by the Loyalists in 1786. A legend is supposedly at the origin of this name. A Scottish soldier called Duncan McRae had settled here but missed his homeland very much. He engraved the words Hope Town, the name of his native village, on a tree. West of the village is a rest area and a beach. On the other side of Hwy 132, notice the bay with its many birds. The place is very inviting.
