Established in 1873, Saint-Godefroi was named in remembrance of its founder priest, Charles-Godefroi Fournier. It was mainly settled in the middle of the 19th century by francophones living in the surrounding areas.

At the mouth of Nouvelle River west of the village, take advantage of the very nice sandy beach. The fishing harbor and the rest area are also places where it is nice to relax.
