Like many others, La Martre lives from fishing and agriculture. Parts of it being on the hillside,, this village offers a magnificent view of the surroundings and if you want a still better view, go up Mont-Martre st. on the east side of the village.
You cannot miss the red lighthouse built in 1906. It's wooden structure is unique. There are also two interesting interpretation centres presenting the lighthouse history and archeology in the region. Another important attraction of the village is the Sainte-Marthe church built in 1914. The exterior is finished in cedar shingles, unique in Gaspésie.
