LIGHTHOUSE HISTORY

The present day lighthouse was built in 1939. It is actually the second one built on this site. The first one was erected in 1873. The lighthouse is 14 meters tall and the octagonal tower is made of concrete. The foghorn dates back to 1959.

Cap-d'Espoir lighthouse has long been used by coastal fishermen as well as transatlantic vessels. It is still in use today.
