Grande-Riviere got its name because of the river that goes through it. This town has had a maritime vocation since 1795 when the lord of the place, Charles Robin, put up many important fishing establisments. Charles Robin has come and gone but the fishing industry lives on. Here you find the Centre specialise des peches, an extension of Gaspe College. The harbor is a lively place with its numerous fishing boats. If you like, you can fish for mackerel and smelt from the wharf. The rest area east of the church offers a panoramic view of the town and the bay. There are hiking trails along the river. It is also possible to go salmon fishing and to play tennis here.
