It is on this sandy point extending into the Bay of Gaspe that the naval base HMCS Fort Ramsey was established during World War II. An anti-submarine net was set up between the tips of Sandy Beach and Penouille on the north shore of the Bay. Only a few vestiges of this base can be seen today.
Sandy Beach is appreciated for what it is: a fine sandy beach that extends all along the point. It's quiet, unsupervised and far from the crowd.
