During World War II, a German torpedo struck a rock at Saint-Yvon, causing much agitation in the village. The remains of the torpedo can be seen in the Musee de la Gaspesie in Gaspe.
Situated at the far end of the bay, Saint-Yvon has a lot to offer in the way of fabulous landscapes and natural attractions. Take time to walk on the beach. East of the cove is a small fishing harbor with a wooden wharf and many boats.
East of Saint-Yvon, stop at the Grand-Etang rest area. In times past, this area was inhabited by fishermen during the fishing season. South of the rest area you will notice a large pond, home to many birds. Although it is slightly inland, you get an excellent view of the sea from this place.
