The first colonists arrived around 1839 but the village was officially founded in 1896. Causapscal is situated at the meeting point of the Matapedia and Causapscal rivers and comes from the Micmac goesopsiag, meaning "pebbly point", an accurate representation of the bottom of the river.

Today, Causapscal is host to many interesting activities. There is Parc des Fourches offering a recreation park, a rest area and a nice viewpoint to observe anglers.

You enjoy hiking in the forest? Then, go to the falls and swamps site located 15 km from Hwy 132. You are assured to have a close look at the numerous salmon resting there.
