This "lake" is actually a widening of Matapedia River, hence the large number of salmon giving the name to the village. Acadians first came to colonize the region.
Lac-au-Saumon is located on the other side of the river from Hwy 132. There is an interesting observation tower formerly used as a fire tower. Also going inland on a concession road, you'll discover many historical Acadian houses, telling you more about the life of the first colonists.
Once in a while, there is a show presented by a renowned artist at the Saint-Joseph Oratory (converted in a theatre).
