The abundant resource of fish and game made Lac-Humqui very attractive to the Micmac Indians. Settlers from Amqui, Sainte-Felicite, Matane and Lac-au-Saumon came to this region only in 1902. And 10 years later, Saint-Zenon-du-Lac-Humqui mission was founded honoring Father Zénon-Octave Gendron.
Lac-Humqui is very appreciated for outdoor activities related to the Humqui Lake. Swimming, fishing and nautical sports are all popular during summer time. In the fall, the hunting season opens and there is the Festival des Couleurs.
