This charming village has been renamed many times. It was first called Lac-Matapedia, then Brochu or Brouche, followed by Lac-a-Brochu honoring Pierre Brochu, first colonist in the Valley. McGowe was used in 1871 honoring the work of the engineer on the Intercolonial railroad. From 1876 to 1883, Cedar Hall was mainly used, but became Saint-Pierre-du-Lac and finally Val-Brillant in 1912. Val-Brillant offers one of the most beautiful examples of the religious heritage in Quebec with its Gothic style church. It has two impressive 45-m high steeples, a remarkable interior and a resounding Casavant organ. A real treasure for the eye. Bois et Berges recreation park situated on the shores of Matapedia Lake offers several outdoor activities. Ride your mountain bike or hike on the many trails offered. There is also a playground, a tennis court and a nice beach. You like water sports? Go to the marina facing the church. A walk in the village will show you numerous interesting old houses and a unique atmosphere. |
